Orthodyne Acquires Kulicke & Soffa Wedge Bonder Technology
Irvine, CA - March 11, 2005 - Orthodyne Electronics, the leading manufacturer of ultrasonic large, small and ribbon bonders for the automotive, semiconductor and power hybrid device industries, has announced the acquisition of the wedge bonder technology of Kulicke & Soffa Industries, Inc. (K&S) of Willow Grove, PA. Orthodyne Electronics will acquire K&S wedge bonding machine design, technology and intellectual property licenses.
"Wedge bonding technology is the primary interconnect used in power semiconductors and power hybrids," said Orthodyne President Gregg Kelly. Jack Belani, K&S senior vice president, wire bonding division and corporate marketing, noted that wedge bonders represented a niche market for K&S and the sale allows K&S to focus it's R&D efforts on new developments for its major product lines, including ball bonders and test products, [continuing the tradition of providing leading solutions for IC products.]
